生徒18名と国際会議に参加しました

本校では「世界の仲間と協働するスキル」を育てるために、Honda Research Institute Japan(HRIJ)が実施してる「人を幸せにするためにデザインされた、新しいタイプのロボットHaru」の研究開発に2021年より参加しています。2022年には和光市にあるHRIJの研究所で研究に参加し、Haruの国際会議に参加しました。

2024年5月には生徒18名と一緒に、Honda Reesarch Institute Japanが原宿駅前のホールで開催した、Haruの最新研究成果を公開するイベントであるHaru Fest 2024に参加してきました。共学化されてから初めての参加だったのですが参加希望者18名中16名が女性で、かわいいロボットHaruに興味深々でした。

最先端の技術を身近に感じてもらうことが、本活動の狙いで、この中から将来、研究者になる人が育ってくれたらいいと思います。また、こうしたイベントの参加者は世界から集まっているため、会場では英語しか通じません。生徒の中には、「第1回目の会議に最初に参加したときは、相手が英語しかわからなかったため、話したいことが沢山あっても話せなかったが、今回はかなり話せて友達になれた。」ととても嬉しそうに語ってくれました。「やりたい！」と自らが思うことが、学びの原点だと思います。

会場では、英語のプレゼンテーションやパネルディスカッションを聞き、参加報告書を会場から学校に提出しました。私もパネリストとして登壇して、生徒たちの活躍を紹介しました。参加者のほとんどが高校1年生ですが、今どきのビジネスパーソンと同じことを楽しそうにさらりとやってのけます。これからの成長がとても楽しみです。

In 2022, we participated in the research and development of “Haru, a new type of robot designed to make people happy,” conducted by Honda Research Institute Japan (HRIJ). We participated in research at HRIJ’s research institute in Wako and took part in an international conference on Haru.

In May 2024, with 18 students, we participated in Haru Fest 2024, a Honda Research Institute Japan event at a hall in front of Harajuku Station to publicize the latest Haru research results. It was the first time we had participated in this event since the school became co-educational, and 16 out of the 18 students who wanted to attend were women who were very interested in the cute robot Haru. This activity aims to familiarize students with cutting-edge technology, and we hope that some of them will become researchers in the future. In addition, since participants in these events come from all over the world, English is the only language spoken at the venue. One of the students said happily, “The first time I attended the first conference, I could not speak even though I wanted to talk a lot because participants only understood English, but this time I could talk a lot, and we became friends. I believe that the starting point of learning is to want to do something.
